Why We Walk

Just meet a few of our remarkable residents and you'll know why we walk:

Eli Persky - 93- years -old - After his wife died and he could no longer drive, Eli felt isolated and longed to be with his peers.   Since moving to the Home, Eli works out in the fitness center five times a week, takes T'ai Chi classes and is surrounded by friends. Being here has given me my life back, he says.

Dorothy Scott - 87-years-old - At the Home, Dorothy began to focus on her spirituality and, in 1996, became the first woman to have a bat mitzvah at Eisenberg Village. The Jewish Home understands the needs of seniors, says Dorothy. The activities it offers help keep people busy, their spirits up, and their minds stimulated. We're lucky to be here to face aging together!

Sheva Levinsky - 90-years-old - Sheva, whose eyesight is impaired, lived alone until she could no longer drive. Since moving to the Home, Sheva not only regularly attends synagogue services and other activities, but she's able to once again indulge in her passion for reading. Today, Sheva enjoys the Home's library with its extensive selection of large print books and the help of a special magnification device.

Genia Burman and Irving Mandel - 88 and 91- years- old -Genia was the only member of a large, extended family to survive the Holocaust. A widow, grandmother, and retired artist, she came to the Home for the superb care and Jewish environment. Irving Mandel, also a Holocaust survivor, moved to the Home with the hope of improving his health. Soon, Genia and Irving discovered how much they had in common and, before they knew it, fell in love. Today, they share a beautiful life at the Home. Genia is painting again, and Irving is a fitness buff who welcomes newcomers to the gym. They walked in alone. Now they walk together as part of the growing community of seniors whose lives have taken on new meaning at the Jewish Home.

Many of our seniors are facing some of the most difficult times of their lives and need every bit of care and compassion we can provide. Your participation in our Walk of Ages helps our wonderful residents live life to its fullest.

On behalf of our residents, thank you for your continued efforts
